CAN I SEND FLOWERS TO A HOSPITAL IN ADELAIDE?
It ultimately depends on the hospital. Most hospitals will allow flower deliveries, but there might be restrictions in certain wards or areas. As a general rule , intensive care (ICU), oncology or immunocompromised patients may not be able to receive flowers because the flowers might harbour water-borne organisms that could affect the patient.
Depending on the ward, we deliver flowers to many Adelaide hospitals, including Adelaide Women’s & Children’s Hospital, Royal Adelaide Hospital, Calvary Adelaide Hospital, St Andrew’s Hospital, The Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Repat Health Precinct & more.
If, after checking, you find you cannot send flowers to your loved one’s room in the hospital, don’t give up; send a gift instead! More on this below!
HOW TO GET FLOWERS DELIVERED TO A HOSPITAL: 5 TIPS
1. CHECK IF THE HOSPITAL WARD ALLOWS FLOWER DELIVERY
As we’ve already mentioned, there might be some restrictions with sending flowers to your loved one in the hospital. So, we highly recommend calling the hospital first to see if they accept flower deliveries. Remember to ask the staff how the flowers should be delivered. They might recommend putting a room number down or getting the florist to confirm the patient details upon delivery (as it’s not unusual for patients to move rooms!).
2. PICK OUT A BRIGHT & CHEERY BOUQUET
The most important tip we can give you is: colour! Hospital rooms can often be a little plain and sombre, but a beautiful bunch of flowers can make all the difference. When choosing flowers, opt for bright flower arrangements or seasonal market bunches like sunflowers, tulips or chrysanthemums. You might even want to pick out a pastel bouquet or a native flower bouquet with subtle pops of colour, or go for the best-smelling flowers to counter the hospital scents.
3. CONSIDER UNSCENTED FLOWERS
For bunches being delivered to hospitals, we can carefully select varieties of flowers that avoid strong scents or high pollen counts, which could potentially trigger allergies. We also acknowledge that everyone has different preferences, which goes for smell too - especially important if your loved one is sharing a room in a hospital.
4. INCLUDE A VASE
When you send a flower bouquet to a hospital, adding a vase is an absolute must. They not only keep the flowers safe and hydrated, but they look beautiful too. Plus, it makes it much easier for your loved one to take the flowers home. A beautiful vase is a gift that can be kept forever.
5. ADD A CARD
While flowers can be a fantastic way to show you care, including a meaningful card just adds that extra special touch. Be sure to tell them you’re thinking of them and sending them lots of healing thoughts. If you’re not sure what to write, we have some ideas! See what to write on a sympathy card for inspiration.
