Aries flowers: honeysuckle and thistle

What flower symbolises an Aries?

Honeysuckle and thistles are the flowers most representative of the fiery, yet passionate Aries. Honeysuckle symbolises true happiness, sweetness and everlasting love. Clashing with honeysuckle, thistles symbolise strength, protection and determination.

History of honeysuckle and thistle

Honeysuckle

Honeysuckle has been cultivated in the western world ever since the 1800’s. With over 180 varieties, society discovered there was more to this seemingly sweet-smelling flower. It carries important antibacterial, anti-inflammatory and anti symptomatic benefits, and is viewed as a key ingredient in Chinese medicine, according to research from Atlantis Press

According to ancient Greek mythology, lovers Daphnis and Chloe lived far away from each other and could only visit once the honeysuckle bloomed. To prove their everlasting love, Daphnis asked the god of love if the honeysuckle could bloom through a longer season, which is why the honeysuckle blooms through the warmer seasons.

Thistle

As the oldest recorded national flower in Scotland, the thistle has stood through the test of time. According to The National Trust For Scotland, a group of sleeping Scottish warriors were ambushed by an invading group of Norse warriors, when one of them stepped on a thorny thistle. He screamed in pain, which awoke the sleeping warriors and allowed them to defeat their Norse enemies. Soon after, the thistle was used as Scotland's national symbol.

Why is honeysuckle and thistle associated with Aries?

Born between March 21st and April 19th, Aries are passionate and individualistic souls who will always follow their own path. Aries are ruled by Mars, the planet of energy, desire and action, so it’s no surprise that Aries share many of the same traits. With so much energy and passion to offer, Aries are known to be deep and emotional lovers, just like the everlasting love tied to honeysuckle!

Although Aries have a charming and inviting personality, don’t be surprised if they are blunt with you, as they value honesty above anything else. This is reminiscent of the eye-catching petals of thistles, accompanied by large protruding thorns for protection—just like the fiery and protective Aries. On the positive side, once you have an Aries on your team, they will be there for life! Their proactive qualities means they will always advocate for you.
